 We had the pleasure of visiting Big Swamp in East Bunbury twice this year - in two very different seasons...it's a stunning place.
 If you happen to be heading to Castlemaine from Melbourne, chances are you'll pass through Chewton, an historical gold mining town on the traditional lands of the the Dja Dja Wurrung peoples. Well, keep an eye out for Railway Dam, a quiet spot on the edge of the Fryers Range State Forest, between Chewton and Elphinstone. It's a sharp turn to the left as you head north of Elphinstone. The day we visited, Railway Dam was showing spring at its absolute best.
BEVERLEYReflecting on how birding can be a comfort when life gets tough  It's taken me a long while to write this blog post...I really enjoyed the experience of photographing Carnaby's black cockatoos in March 2022, though life was not great at the time.
 We recently discovered The Briars on Mornington Peninsula, and loved it...we also knew we would return to a nearby walk from The Briars to Mt Martha Beach, and see the Balcombe Estuary. The walk is known for eastern yellow robins and other lovely bush birds. We weren't disappointed.
