Beverley - photographER
Beverley started photography in 1984. Having just started as a secondary teacher in regional Western Australia, she was handed the school's SLR camera: "Congratulations, you're the school photographer now - here's a book!". It was a wonderful opportunity to use a great camera, setup a darkroom, and get creative with the school magazine. Unfortunately, when the job ended, so did access to the camera. Many years passed with just travel shots and happy snaps on a phone camera.
Then along came 2020 and we all know what happened...confined to a daily walk in the park, Beverley paid more attention to birds. And researching cameras became a welcome distraction during the Melbourne lockdowns. And so her photography journey recommenced, focussed on birds, nature, and whatever grabs her attention.
Beverley is now a keen member of BirdLife and especially appreciates the bird photography community. She also takes the opportunity to photograph birds, fauna and flora, landscapes and anything else when she's out and about. Since 2022, she's also been trying to develop her video and drone skills.

Beverley was even more surprised to learn that she was joint awardee of the BirdLife Photography Entry level Bronze Medal in 2022.
In 2023, Beverley's photo of three Baudin's Black Cockatoos rated a special mention by the mystery reviewer in the Birdlife Photography Competition ("More than a Pair", Intermediate Level).
