MILKSHAKE HILLS LOOKOUT WALK (1:05)This compelling walk to the lookout at Milkshake Hills is well worth the effort - stunning views over wide open spaces, a huge variety of vegetation, and the chance of seeing a 'swifty' (swift parrot). Spoiler alert: we didn't.

TROWUTTA ARCH (0:57)Our first stop on the Tarkine Drive was Trowutta Arch... It was like stepping into a wonderland – palm fronds and tall trees, leaf litter and bird song in this shaded vegetation.

SPRING AT ITS BEST - RAILWAY DAM (2:14)If you happen to be heading to Castlemaine from Melbourne, chances are you'll pass through Chewton, an historical gold mining town on the traditional lands of the the Dja Dja Wurrung peoples. Well, keep an eye out for Railway Dam, a quiet spot on the edge of the Fryers Range State Forest, between Chewton and Elphinstone. The day we visited, it was showing spring at its absolute best. BALCOMBE ESTUARY WALK TO THE BRIARS (1:55)We recently discovered The Briars on Mornington Peninsula, and loved it...we also knew we would return to a nearby walk from The Briars to Mt Martha Beach, and see the Balcombe Estuary. The walk is known for eastern yellow robins and other lovely bush birds. We weren't disappointed. See our blog post.

A STUNNING WALKAT THE BRIARS (0:45)The Briars is a wonderful place to visit: just inland from Mt Martha on the Mornington Peninsula, it consists of 230 hectares of conservation park and wildlife sanctuary, with a heritage homestead, a cafe and more. Entry to the Sanctuary, surprisingly, is free. See our blog post.

A VISIT TO CLARKESDALE BIRD SANCTUARY (1:41)We stumbled across Clarkesdale on the Birdlife website... what a hidden gem close to Ballarat. The Sanctuary is about two hours from Melbourne and about 30 minutes from Ballarat. The day we visited, it was very empty (of people) and full of birdsong - rather lovely! See our blog post.

BIG SWAMP - LOVELY BIRDS 1:47Big Swamp is a 31ha wetlands and conservation park quite close to the Bunbury city centre. It was originally an aboriginal hunting ground, then market gardens and in the 60s a landfill site. But now, it's a lovely place to go for a walk, surrounded by two kilometres of flat and accessible bitumen and boardwalk paths. And plenty of nature on display. See our blog post.

YELLOW-TAILED BLACK COCKATOOS IN YARRA PARK (0:51)Every year the yellow-tailed black cockatoos come for a visit to Yarra Park, home of the MCG, in central Melbourne. Well, despite the weather, they're back and seem to be enjoying the pine cones, chewing on the elm trees, and generally making a (lovely) racket. We always enjoy them! See our blog post.
