We had the pleasure of visiting Big Swamp in East Bunbury twice this year - in two very different seasons...it's a stunning place.
There are several species of fauna, as well as over sixty species of birds - a real gift in this lovely part of town. For more in-depth information, check out the Friends of Big Swamp site - the Friends look like a very active group. Our first visit was in March - the weather was still warm and the light was bright. Birds were in abundance. The second visit was in early November, and the weather was struggling to shake off its winter clouds...still, the whole area looked magnificent when the sun managed to sneak through the clouds. As expected, there were plenty of swallows about - what was surprising was how humanised this little chap was, quite insistent on holding his ground and saying hello. Just another friendly local! If you're in the area, try Big Swamp for a walk - there's parking, and a playground, and a wildlife park next door. On our next visit, we'll check that out too.
