Mount Gibraltar, known locally as the Gib, was a popular destination for Mother's Day drives and picnics...meanwhile, we headed out for a walk around the rim. It was a bit treacherous underfoot, made even more so by the recent heavy rains, but we were rewarded by the lookout views across Bowral and Mittagong.
Just south of Bowral in NSW, the Cecil Hoskins Nature Reserve is well worth a visit. Adjoining it is the Bong Bong Track through grasslands and a well-paved bike and walk path.
On our last full day at Boobook we went to Fitzroy Falls and it was brilliant, augmented by a bright 23 degree day with big blue sky.
On another day we went further south to Booderee National Park at Jervis Bay. Situated within the park is the Australian National Botanic Garden.
For the past few days we have been staying at Boobook Cottage in Bellawongarah on Berry Mountain. This is a very comfortable cottage with wood fire and all the mod cons in an idyllic setting off the beaten track and in the forest, including some rain forest. Even better than the accommodation is the surrounds – what a great treat to be driving along mountain roads, and then down onto the coastal plain below (including big and bustling Nowra, quaint Berry, and shining Huskisson). But wait, let’s go slowly through the days…
