We spent a couple of days enjoying the birds, butterflies and bush near Mount Bruno in the Warby-Ovens Ranges, just north of Glenrowan. Mount Bruno was new to us, though we do love visiting nearby Glenrowan - the Glenrowan Providore there is always on the visiting list. On this particular occasion, we decided to stay a little further north in an area known as Mount Bruno. We found an excellent Air BnB there called Hidden Gem, and it was! Luxury digs with panoramic views and plenty of birds on the property. We spent our first afternoon there exploring the hillside bush, and enjoying the cicada chorus - they were out in force. The bush sure sounded alive in that typical Australian hot afternoon mode. But the cicadas didn't have the place to themselves - butterflies were also prolific, and we're pretty sure we saw a black-faced cuckoo shrike, but the photographer was too slow of the mark on that one. We headed back down to the vineyard, and we delighted to see a red-capped robin and many honeyeaters enjoying the summer evening. A yellow-faced honeyeater decided to pose very nicely for us. A bird on a stick is worth a shot. But the white-browed babblers won the day - these highly sociable birds were having the best time chatting among themselves and darting between the bushes. We always enjoy their gregarious antics. There were plenty of other birds around including silvereyes and rainbow bee-eaters, sulphur-crested cockatoos and corellas. The 'sulphur cockies' seemed to be on alert when the kookaburras started calling. We took that as a signal that it was time for us to head to our digs and enjoy an evening beverage on the veranda. And we did!
