We stayed at Strawbale Cottage where miniature ponies live. Those were two of the four fabulous things about this place! But there was much more... After Bruny Island, we headed to the Huon Valley, and more specifically, to Strawbale Cottage near Franklin, where we spent two nights. That was the first fabulous thing - the cottage. It was indeed made of straw bales by the owners, and it was decorated in the Swiss German style. It was such good quality, roomy yet cosy, and it just worked. Everything about this cottage said "comfort" and "home". The owner, Heidi, was lovely, and the rates were very good value. After all that, we forgot to take a photo but you can see and read much more here. The second fab thing was the miniature ponies, and we didn't forget to photograph them, especially the new little fellow born just a week earlier. These ponies would venture to the fence to say hello, but they were pretty shy - and very cute! As you can see, we were in love with this little guy! The third fab thing - again, no photos! (sigh) - was the farm produce sold on site from a small shop. There were fresh vegetables, ice cream, cakes, bread, and so on. We could have snacked and grazed here for a week, but it's probably just as well we didn't. The fourth and (not) final fab thing was the surrounding area: we were near to Franklin, a delightful village, and not far from Cygnet. Across this area, there were enough big supermarkets for all needs, but also enough cutesy gift and craft shops for some serious indulging. Not to mention all the Huon Valley apples and other fresh produce. We'd love to spend more time in this area, and we reckon it would without doubt be while we were bedded down at Strawbale Cottage. Highly recommended!
