Wow, what a find! Mullum Mullum Creek is about half an hour from central Melbourne, in the suburb of Donvale.
In the first section, there was a cacophony of sulphur-crested cockatoos who were very active and competitive. Squawking and jousting, and jockeying for positions...it was a riot of activity. The second half of the walk was the more serene, and equally exciting: an eastern rosella, shy as always, was lurking in a shady tree, watching our progress, and allowing itself to be photographed. Shortly after we spied an equally magnificent and placid crimson rosella, sitting in the shade and preening itself. We never get tired of these lovely birds. At the end of our walk, we sat on a park bench enjoying the bush. We struck up a conversation with an elderly lady who told us she was ninety, and she walked the Trail for an hour every day to keep herself fit - after she did the cooking and cleaning at home to help the family. She was an inspiration and a delight to chat with.
We highly recommend Mullum Mullum Creek Trail...and we'll be returning there soon.
