Hello You Yangs!

We got there at last and what a treat! On a fabulous sunny cloud-free day, we drove just south of Melbourne to the You Yangs, a place we had admired from afar for years, including the 263 days of lockdown. It didn't disappoint - we did the Big Rock walk on this first trip, and found birds aplenty, starting with this little girl - a delightful wren singing to her heart's content...

Our 3.5km walk was through exquisite woodlands..

Along the way, we chanced upon a scarlet robin, a buff-dumped thornbill (who knew?), a kookaburra, some silvereye, a yellow-faced honeyeater, and another newbie for us, a rufous whistler (who shared a most glorious song with us). Most are shown here - with a few extras!

We walked the 3.5 kms to the Big Rock and the views (below) did not disappoint...even if the crowds were a little intrusive (it was a long weekend so everyone was out enjoying the open space - great to see!). 

We'll be heading out to the You Yangs again very soon - it's a new favourite.
